Downtown Summer Meltdown
"Officially" Welcomes Summer!

MEMPHIS, Tenn.,Thursday, June 8, 2000 - Are you ready for a "funky" good time with music from the seventies? Then make plans to attend the next Downtown Summer Meltdown, the third in a series of five free, monthly outdoor events featuring some of the best entertainers in Memphis.

This month's party will be held Wednesday, June 21st, (the official start of summer!) Our emcee is FM100's Ron Olsen and the opening act is DJ Stash, a popular Nashville-based interactive disk jockey who specializes in 70's music, complete with wild clothes and an afro wig. He's a favorite of corporate events and charity fund-raisers.

Dr. Zarr's Amazing Funk Monster headlines this month's block party. Dr. Zarr is one of the Mid-South's hottest frat bands, dressing up in 1970's bell bottom pants and rainbow colored afro wigs, while playing long medleys of funky 70's hits. You can't help but laugh!

Whether you're on your way to the Orpheum, or headed to the Redbirds game that night, the Downtown Summer Meltdown is a great way to start your evening.

Not only will it be a fantastic party, but trivia buffs might even get to go home with a briefcase full of cash thanks to the "Who Wants To Be a Thousandaire?" contest, a new regular Block Party feature. (Your FINAL answer to downtown after-hours fun!)

Some of the contest questions will focus on the 300,000 square-foot Peabody Place Entertainment and Retail Center, scheduled to open in November. Major tenants include Jillian's, Muvico, Tower Records and NASCAR Silicon Motor Speedway™.

There will also be opportunities for guests to win lots of fantastic prizes from Flying Saucer and Coca-Cola, as well as trips to places like Las Vegas or Mexico, compliments of McCarty Travel.

Gordon Biersch and Rialto, new Peabody Place tenants as well as downtown Memphis' newest restaurant hot spots, will provide food and beverages. Comfortable seating is available so that partygoers can relax and soak in the fun.
