Belz Enterprises
Sponsors Free Concert
By Memphis Symphony on
September 18
Memphis, Tenn. (September 9, 1998) --
Belz Enterprises will sponsor a free Pops
concert by the Memphis Symphony Orchestra on Friday
evening, September 18 at the foot of the new Belz Office
Tower at Peabody Place.
Singer Joyce Cobb and her band will
kick off the concert at 5 p.m. followed by the
performance of the Memphis Symphony at 7 p.m. Terry Mike
Jeffery, noted singer, songwriter, and
multi-instrumentalist will join the symphony.
The symphony will be conducted by
Vincent L. Danner, newly named resident conductor. The
symphonys two-hour program will include music from
Broadway shows, marches, gospel, semi-classical pieces
and popular music, including songs made famous by Elvis
Presley and Simon and Garfunkel.
Terry Mike Jeffrey has been performing
since the late 1970s when his band toured the United
States and Canada, playing casinos, conventions, night
clubs and even cruise ships. He has released seven
albums, the latest on a Warner Brothers classical label
of a symphonic album featuring his guitar work.
The event is part of the monthly block
parties at Peabody Place that are sponsored by Belz
Enterprises. Septembers event is a slight departure
from the usual block party because it is being held on a
Friday instead of the usual last Wednesday of the month.
Musical groups that have performed at
the block parties have ranged from rock, to blues, to
country-rock, but Septembers event will mark the
first time a symphony has performed.
The Peabody Place block parties have
proven popular since being introduced late last summer.
Hundreds attend the early-evening celebrations that
feature live music, a variety of food and drinks, and
something unusual from cheerleaders to a high-wire
act.
Fridays event is being sponsored
by Breckenridge Brewery; Ciao Cucina Restaurant; Carlton
Cards, Java Blues, McCarty Travel; City Grocery; FM-100;
and the Center City Commission.
