Previously-read hard-cover, soft-cover and paperback books in popular categories such as business, novels, mystery, fiction, non-fiction, children’s and cookbooks will be sold for fifty cents to $1.00 during mall hours. In addition, specially-designed Friends of the Library note cards will be available for purchase for $5.00. All proceeds will be used for special projects at the main branch of the Library of St. Johns County. "This is a great opportunity to purchase library-quality books at bargain prices, while supporting the programs of the local library," says Andrew J. Groveman, President of the Factory Outlet World Division of Belz Enterprises. "We see this event as an opportunity to encourage reading as a family leisure activity. The National Institute for Literacy reports that more than one-third of all fourth-graders do not meet the basic reading requirements for their grade level while approximately 40 million adults in the United States have deficient literary skills. Encouraging reading as a family activity could certainly bolster basic skills, improve school performance and provide a meaningful pastime."
