MAYOR AC WHARTON TO ACCEPT PUPPET GIFT

ON BEHALF OF CITIZENS OF MEMPHIS, SHELBY COUNTY

wHAT:      Mayor AC Wharton will accept a gift of 80 puppets from Chinese delegate and film/TV producer Wang Yuanfeng on behalf of the citizens of Memphis and Shelby County. The gift is a goodwill gesture to promote cultural, educational and economic relations between our two cultures.

• Photo Opportunity: The puppets are each dressed in traditional bright Chinese costumes and represent characters from Chinese history and legend.

EVENT DESCRIPTION:

The Peabody Place Museum, home to a world-class collection of 19th Century Chinese art, will be the home for the Chinese puppets. Puppets will be on display during the museum’s Chinese New Year Family Day Celebration February 4 and indefinitely after that.

            In honor of the Year of the Dog, a portion of the Family Day’s proceeds will be donated to the Memphis & Shelby County Humane Society.
