BELZ FACTORY OUTLET WORLD - ST. AUGUSTINE DONATES "COINS IN THE FOUNTAIN" TO SALVATION ARMY FOOD BANK

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (August 25, 2004) - Thanks to visitors at Belz Factory Outlet World in St. Augustine, the Salvation Army Food Bank of Northeast Florida recently received a boost in its fight against hunger. The mall's fountain change has been donated, and the funds have been allocated for a new computer to assist Food Bank staff.

"The Salvation Army is known as a community partner that assists those who need it most. It is our pleasure and privilege to present this check to the Food Bank," said Andrew J. Groveman, president of Belz Factory Outlet Division. "We gladly support such a worthwhile organization."

Twice per year, the mall collects and donates coins from the fountain to an area charity. Fountain change from January through June 2004 totaled over $450, and a check was presented by Jan Pearce, general manager of Belz Factory Outlet World in St. Augustine and Salvation Army council member, to Bruce Maguire, St. Johns county commissioner and Salvation Army council chairman, and Majors Tim and Janice Roberts. Also present were Salvation Army council members Gary Bruce, Ray Ashton, Linda Mathis, Linda Whittington and Sabrah Witkamp.

About the Salvation Army Food Bank

The Salvation Army of Northeast Florida crossed into a new frontier in the fight against hunger with the grand opening of the Salvation Army Food Bank in St. Augustine, Fla. on June 27, 2003.

The Food Bank operation is the only one of its kind in the 15 states of The Salvation Army's Southern Territory. Unlike food pantry programs, which provide groceries directly to homeless and low-income individuals and families, this food bank serves as the source of groceries for agencies that operate those food pantries.

The new facility serves 53 soup kitchens, churches and other nonprofit agencies in St. Johns, Putnam and Flagler counties. The Food Bank distributes approximately 30,000 pounds of food monthly and provides 175,651 meals throughout the year. The facility is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday and is located at 1731-7 Dobbs Road in St. Augustine, Fla. For more information, please visit www.salvationarmyjax.org.
